Protein Intake, Metabolic Status and the Gut Microbiota in Different Ethnicities: Results from Two Independent Cohorts

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background: Protein intake has been associated with the development of pre-diabetes (pre-T2D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). The gut microbiota capacity to produce harmful metabolites derived from dietary protein. Furthermore, both composition metabolic status (e.g., insulin resistance) can be modulated by diet ethnicity. However, date most studies have predominantly focused on carbohydrate fiber regards composition. Objectives: To determine associations between protein intake, composition, in different ethnicities. Methods: Separate cross-sectional analysis two European cohorts (MetaCardis, n = 1759; HELIUS, 1528) including controls, patients pre-T2D, T2D Caucasian/non-Caucasian origin nutritional data obtained Food Frequency Questionnaires Results: In cohorts, animal (but not plant) was pre-T2D after adjustment for confounders. There no significant association (total, animal, or either alpha diversity beta diversity, regardless At species level, we identified taxonomical signatures that overlapped abundances according Conclusions: Animal is but Gut microbial were identified, which could function as potential modulators status.

HIV infection results in metabolic alterations in the gut microbiota different from those induced by other diseases

Imbalances in gut bacteria have been associated with multiple diseases. However, whether there are disease-specific changes in gut microbial metabolism remains unknown. Here, we demonstrate that human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection (n = 33) changes, at quantifiable levels, the metabolism of gut bacteria. These changes are different than those observed in patients with the auto-immune di...

Gut Microbiota and Metabolic Disorders

Gut microbiota plays critical physiological roles in the energy extraction and in the control of local or systemic immunity. Gut microbiota and its disturbance also appear to be involved in the pathogenesis of diverse diseases including metabolic disorders, gastrointestinal diseases, cancer, etc. In the metabolic point of view, gut microbiota can modulate lipid accumulation, lipopolysaccharide ...

Gut microbiota in obesity and metabolic disorders.

Obesity is a major public health issue as it is causally related to several chronic disorders, including type-2 diabetes, CVD and cancer. Novel research shows that the gut microbiota is involved in obesity and metabolic disorders, revealing that obese animal and human subjects have alterations in the composition of the gut microbiota compared to their lean counterparts. Moreover, transplantatio...

Host-gut microbiota metabolic interactions.

The composition and activity of the gut microbiota codevelop with the host from birth and is subject to a complex interplay that depends on the host genome, nutrition, and life-style. The gut microbiota is involved in the regulation of multiple host metabolic pathways, giving rise to interactive host-microbiota metabolic, signaling, and immune-inflammatory axes that physiologically connect the ...
